I finally got through to Piers Anthony, and he sent me the following
answer:

Thank you for your note. We have printed it for Piers Anthony, and he
gave us the following answer for you:
I am now writing Under a Velvet Cloak, the 8th Incarnations of
Immortality novel, about Nox, as discussed in the December
and February HiPiers columns. I am using a chronology made by one
reader, and a story summary made by another. I'll
consider your questions as I work on this. In some cases, I suspect that
not every purpose could be accomplished by a direct
change. For example, ordering Hitler to spare the Jews might have led to
undesirable consequences, such as the use of Einstein
to develop a Nazi atom bomb before the allies did, winning the war for
Germany.
In Velvet Cloak it is established that there are many alternate
histories of the world, and tiny changes can make great shifts of
human events. So all the conflicting things exist, in one time line or
another, and there seems to be a fairly constant shifting
between them. Satan is aware of more alternates than most folk are, and
may remember things that never hapened in our
version.

What would you like to see happen in the 8th Incarnations book?

I read the first 7 Incarnations of Immortality novels back in the early 1990s, and loved them. I have known about this 8th book for a while but have not gotten around to getting it yet. But it sounds fascinating and I must check it out soon. It's sort of like the now complete 29 volumes of Raymond E Feit's Magician series. First half a dozen read when they first came out, but oh my gosh, getting it all read now will take forever. Same for Shannara and others. But this one from Piers sounds great.
